    Question about repairs..

I have a log home that has one really bad spot between these two windows. My question is could I remove these logs and replace them with windows, framing them out with 2x6's and two 2x6's in between each window? Thanks

Knowing only the little that I know, I'd be inclined to shoot for three windows, with two columns between them for support. I'd use logs but it could be dimensional beams or framed lumber.

PS... Thanks for the photo. More might help.

yeah, what LHN said. But I think you should do some really beefy 4x12's in between as the supports.

And also - what made the bad spot in the first place? is the roof overhang too short?

really cool looking logs on that place, by the way.

What's your plan for the finish on the logs? Cob blasting? Looks like it may have a paint type finish on it... Which, is my understanding, could potentially trap moisture.

Thanks for the reply's. Three windows it is. I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do.

The overhang is fine. Just poorly constructed windows. And thank you on the logs. 6X12 hand hewn.

Not paint. It's a solid stain. Not sure of the way forward. May have to blast this side of the house. Would love to avoid doing the whole thing if that's even possible.
