  1. Practice log shed finally complete!

    I've loved the whole process of making a practice log shed. If I can do it, anyone can! I'm a web developer from Maine with no prior building experience. Just need to take your time and always follow LHBA's guidelines - they're solid and reliable and tested principles.

  2. change in plans

    we have the logs cleaned/borated/stained. got chinking insulation done and 6 of the 8 (4 interior/4 exterior) walls nailed.
    but rather than quickly finishing prep and moving on to chinking, we've decided to close up the gable ends (while we still have the rented tele) and chink when we have some spare time (like when its been raining and is too muddy to use the tele).

  4. Chinking update

    were able to finish staining the cabin!

    started placing chinking nails done (got one exterior done. took 10 man-hours to do the whole wall.
    also got started with insulation. one wall took 3 man-hours.

    will keep moving forward.

  5. prep for chinking

    to prep the logs of our 35x35 for chinking we had to clean the logs, borate them and stain them

    we'd talked about cob blasting the logs to clean them but it turned out our compressor was not strong enough to move the cob fast enough to do a good job. so we powerwashed the logs instead (and are selling the cob on CL )

    we used a 3750 PSI powerwasher which worked great til the pump died. while we waited til the new pump arrived, we rented a 4000 PSI one.
