Hi Everyone, I recently joined the forums, but didn't fully realize what this forum was about. I learned a different building method than is taught here. Not saying one way is better than the other, just different.
Anyway I thought since this is a place where log home folks gather, I would share this picture of an old log cabin I took a couple of days ago. Located not far from where I live in the Oregon Cascade Mountains. ( Odell Lake. )
PS. I just began having my plans drawn today for a small ( 1200 square ft. ) house.

thanks for the pic!
This forum is at least as much about building your own place and being debt free as the BnP style. That cabin looks nice, but I could do with a bit bigger logs and more substantial overhangs...
Anyway, you are building small... That is good even if it is stick frame. .
Welcome to the forum.

-PeterI guess I might fit better here than I thought. Building debt free is my goal.
I agree about the larger logs and overhangs. I have noticed this in a lot of the older cabins around this area and where I once lived in Idaho. I think they were built with smaller logs simply because they were easier to lift without machinery.

Actually, we have had a fairly mild winter here this year. This was taken near the Willamette pass. Last year they had 3 to 4 times that much snow at this time of year.

That's what I'm talking about, right there. That's the picture in my mind. Just throw in a rocking chair on a screened in porch overlooking the lake/dock, and you're there.

Ron,
I think you found a family. Your Cabin is beautiful and it's location is a dream. My property and eventual home is/will be in Chiloquin. Howdy neighbor.

Welcome to the zoo Ron.....I agree, you'll fit in nicely.
Up north of me we have the whole spectrum of log build styles that I've been in over the years. That pic of yours symbolizes what it's about IMO
Beautiful, isolated and a slice of heaven! ;)
Cheers

Edkemper, and Loglover, Just to carify, this is not my place. I just went for a drive and thought it would make a nice picture.
I do not have lakefront property. Planning to build a chinker with saddle notches, and some blind dovetail notches for some inside log partitions. I built a full scribe house in Idaho, but like the looks of chinking, and is faster and saves a ton of work.

Hey Ron - I caught that. What I had meant is love of log home and smaller size and your location.
B&P be my way for same reasons you stated. I dig scribes too but time is money.
again - welcome to the zoo

Ron,
Looking at it from the other side, you've built some with the most difficult style possible. Now you're here. I think you're still crazy enough to fit in real well here.
I'm going to be up at my property in Oregon for a day or two in a couple of weeks. Plenty of snow for a beautiful forest if things work out right. This will be the first visit I will be able to positively identify my property boundaries as the surveyor has it all staked and/or posted.
