hello their every one i am a newbie on this site and i would love to build a log cabin hear in my homeland of wales uk if i get planning permission big if and of course out of roundwood.we have lots of softwood forests hear in the mountains mostly cedar douglas fir and larch pine and hemlock.i love the thought of building with natural matiriels and would love some of your advice.i recently went to a local sawmill that deals in douglas fir and they had a big pile of what i call tree flanks the half moon sides they cut off the tree to get a square board, and thought they would make a lovely cabin they were thick and long and heavy.is this a good choice or not i would love some advice thanks

Hey waiter_f, welcome to LHBA! There is much to be said about what you are asking, so, as anyone else on here would likely advise you, consider flying out to the next course if you are seriously interested in building a proper log home. You will not regret your decision, I assure you. All your questions about tree types, construction (secrets), etc will be answered and you will leave eager to start building your house.

Sounds like you have some good recources. Take the class and start building your dream home using real logs like they used to do it.
