Was wondering how dusty cabins get inside, and if the Logs and chinking are hard to keep clean? This seems to be a big issue for my wife.

The interior of a log home is definitely made up of a bunch of shelves that are really good targets for dust. If slick sheetrock is her thing she'll probably not be pleased with the unmanicured callousness of a real log home. On the other hand, if she goes all ga-ga over 1/2 or more of the homes in the LHBA gallery, I think she's fair game.

Personal taste is a funny thing. You never really know just what your spouse is gonna love or hate til you see her/him knee deep in it. My wife is a dust hater also. She battles dust by limiting knick-knacks, hanging plates and all those decorative dust magnets that most gals seem to go nuts for. She's less fanatical about the transient dust that wants to rest on a window sill or log wall. She wipes that stuff off without cussing under her breath like she does when she has to dust that goofyast ceramic cat that my Mother gave her.

One way that we will battle dust is by having solid wood floors. Wall to wall carpet is a dust swiffer's best friend. Personally I love the feel of a well built log home. If she gets that secure, safe, and loved feeling inside a well built log home, you have a chance.

If your logs are finished inside the dust will be easier to remove and will collect less. Unfinished inside logs have a rougher surface and collect more. Many log home builders do use a lot of sheetrock. You may want to limit the exposed interior logs to just enough to give you the feel you want inside and please her as well.
