Well it only took 2 weeks but I've finally finished reading every post on the forum from the beginning. First my hats off to everyone who continues to answer the same questions: How much, how long to do it, log types...Glad I decided to read rather than ask the same questions as everyone else. It actually reached a point of being annoying, geez just do a search folks, ya really think nobodys ever asked that question?
Enough of my rant.
Didnt take much to convince the wife so now the team is on board. Just making plans for the Sept. class right now, hopefully can make it happen before the class fills up.
Right now the big stuff is on hold until we get to class, land and logs. I've gone into scrounge mode and so far have found a complete set of kitchen appliances, 3 years old and free..gotta love rich folks who like to remodel.
I have 2 storage units that are going to fill up quick, my plan is to pay for nothing unless absolutely necessary. Windows, cabinets you name it, kinda amazing whats out there for free if ya just start looking.
In my introduction I thanked everyone for saving me from a kit home. This is a path we are going to enjoy following.

how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?
The world may never know.
How long does it take to read all the posts on the public LHBA forums?
2 weeks.
Thanks for the tidbit!

Way to go on finding free materials. Sounds like you really got the right mindset. Just a thought. What are those storage units costing you? I'm too cheap to pay rent on something like that. I managed to store my stuff where I work for free, for just over 5 years. While you're doing great on getting materials cheap/free, you might want to consider how you can cut non-materialistic costs.
We have a member on here who got several weather-tight 45ft semi trailers for a whopping $100 a piece. Like you said, great deals are out there with a little digging.

Right now the storage units are free due to a friend owning the business and he is only about half full, says I can store for free until he gets some more paying customers. Check Craigslist daily and put the word out there in regards to things you need or are looking for....everyone knows someone who may just have what you need for free.

Personally, I find your rant offensive. Some of us newbies have lives. Or maybe we tried to search and couldn't find it. Or maybe we just felt we had a question with a different spin on it. In any case, I find it rude to be lectured to. I'm here to learn to build log homes. If i want drama I'll tune to General Hospital. Thank you

Some learn to fish and others ask for fish... to each their own.

Okay, Okay, Okay! I admit it! I am a ditz. I am a TRUE Blonde. I am female and no longer a girl. My background is not carpentry. Yes, I own a hammer, but I frequently use it to work on plumbing. I KNOW that I do not have a background to jump into building without considerable home work. I have read tons on how to do other types of construction but the only place I now to find info about Butt and Pass is here. Have I used the stored topics on this site? You betcha! I feel that it is MY responsibility to read and reread posts here. How long has it taken me? MMMMMMMmmmmmm I joined years ago and read this site for at least a year before that. I still read for more info. It has taken me a whole lot longer than 2 wks. lol I feel that reading this website was my prep wk for ths class. The homework really paid off at class time.
I hope to break ground thsi summer. Do I still have cold feet. I would be an idiot not to! Will I have problems? A mountain of them. BUT, I will have on heck of a support system!

TDB,
Be Nice, we're All here for alot of the same reasons. There can be more than one correct answer in any given situation. One thing I'm starting to understand about myself is, the more I learn, the more I realize how little "we" actually know about anything. We all learn differently, have different skill sets. Most of the members here are more than willing to take you fishing with them, and even help to put the worm on your hook if need be.

Well first I thought TDBrazie was talkin' about me... And then I thought John was talking about me... And now I can't figure out where I fit in to this thread.
I think it's time for me to get that first floor nailed into my house. Jake and I started cutting PT for the pony wall that goes down the middle of the house. The County says we have to tape a vapor barrier to the footing but duct tape doesn't seem to wanna stick too well. I bought the duct tape at Costco so I know it's good duct tape. Maybe the concrete isn't sticky enough.
I simply love this forum. Yeah there are too many stupid questions at times but none of them have come from any of the posters on this thread. I don't mind the boneheaded questions because I have high speed internet and can take a quick peak and dart right back out again without making a fool of myself with an answer.
I know that last line will be hashed to death by all those folks who are forced to read my drivel from time to time. Go ahead... I can take it.

The last thing I wanted or expected was for this to grow to what it now appears. I am new here and feel that I pretty much know my place in regards to knowledge on the subject....Be quiet and learn. I belong to several online forums and what they all have in common is that the written word does not convey tone, inflection or emotion. Sometimes this results in unintended meaning being interpreted from the written word.
Personally, I find your rant offensive. Some of us newbies have lives. Or maybe we tried to search and couldn't find it. Or maybe we just felt we had a question with a different spin on it. Really JohnW?
My apologies.

Blondie,
> I admit it! I am a ditz. I am a TRUE Blonde.
Were you trying to say that if a blonde can do it, the others should be able to do it also? Smile. I like having you around. Not because you're blonde but because you make sense and ask great questions. You also make me smile, thanks.
