Has anyone acclimated Log(s) for the interior with the Root Flare intact that you know of? Seems like a pretty cool idea for a centerpiece non support log... How can this be done? Is it just sanded down and clear sealed like the rest? Hmmmm

I think the description is a little hard to visualize.....basically we are asking if anyone has used a tree, from the base (where the roots start to spread on the ground) and preserved that base root sprawl, and used for a staircase or front porch posts....we've seen it once or twice while looking through books and is VERY COOL. I would love to try to incorporate in our design.

Logsurfer2,
May I, suggest that what you are talking about is the use of the Ceder logs as shown on "Pioneer Log Homes of British Columbia?" They use they "big end" of the tree to a very good advantage.

Yea, I seen it done somewhere before. I'm thinking it may have been cypress, but any species can work. (branch flares can be incorporated, just as easily as trunk flares) Just finish like any other part of your interior treatments.

I actually saw them in a book from the Library...pictures from 'Oregon Log homes .com'...I guess they have incorporated this 'design' in a few 'pretend log homes' before :)
Though, it looks pretty cool nonetheless
