scavenging thread things to scavange

I was up at the scrap yard today and they have a big pile of rebar there at the moment.
A good chance for me to scarf up on some cheap stuff.
What size rebar is recommended for these builds?

whatever you can get! I wouldn't get smaller than 1/2 inch though.
