Trying to maintain our sanity while we wait for June to get here, so doing our "homework" (it's only making things worse though...I dream about logs and everything log EVERY night! Hubby seems to be maintaining though LOL).
I've read 15 pages of the forum thus far (working from oldest date to most recent), and I've ordered the Les and Carol Scher book on "Buying Your Place in the Country," but I'd like to order some of the other books that are recommended reading. I read there was a list but can't seem to find it. Could somebody please post to this thread?
We have set goals to be rid of all personal debt prior to the class. Plan on getting rid of our two financed personal vehicles and paying cash for replacement vehicle.
Don't own or rent a home at the present time, so no obligations there (we own tractor-trailer and sold the house 3 years ago when last of the kids left for college).
Am thinking there are going to be some distinct advantages to being mobile, such as we are. Can find good deals on supplies, all over the nation, and go get them ourselves, if our carrier permits. Heck, for that matter, we could even build anywhere we want to really. But, prefer to remain in close proximity to our kids and grandkids.
We would like to be able to help others obtain their supplies also, but have to figure out what we can or cannot do as leased operators. If nothing else, we can help with physical labor since most locations would be fairly easy for us to get to (unless it is a place with little freight coming and going).
Another advantage to having the career that we have, we can take any amount of time off whenever we choose to. Obviously, we have to run enough to pay what bills we DO have, and to finance this project. But, should be able to devote quite a bit of time to the project when the times comes.
Just thinking out loud. I apologize for the lengthy post. Like everyone else, we have so many thoughts, questions, dreams, etc....and the waiting is UNBEARABLE, so trying to channel our energies productively.
So many questions....we hope to build several homes (build for ourselves and then sell) and eventually build full-time and get away from trucking altogether. We also hope to end up with a mortgage-free home when the time comes for us to retire. We expect slow-going in the beginning though, but think we may be in a position to make things go a LITTLE faster, hopefully.
Okay, I could go on and on. So sorry. Too much ADRENALINE!! haha We appreciate your comments. :)
