In Ellsworth, Kansas! I know I'd move to a place with a personally poetic name like Loghousenut, Louisiana. Or maybe Muffin, Missouri. I'd cerainly stay away from a place like Fatoldman, Florida!

Yea, I recall this program from several years ago. ( http://www.loghomebuilders.org/free-land-modern-day-homestead-act ) Don't expect acreage though. Mostly, you'll find town lots, which in reality wouldn't sell for much more than a few thousand anyhow, but if you'd be OK with building in town, and are pinching every dime to get a place built, I suppose it's not a bad idea to consider.

Yep you're likely right, small lots, but hey, wouldn't take much to toss up a 25x25 single story, then live ther debt-free while you save for a larger piece of land/house.
