My wife and I purchased a member built log home in June. We love it! It was a mess when we got it. The owners were only in it for 3 months before they had some financial problems and had to move. It sat empty for about 18months and was in need of alot of repairs. The problem I am stuck on currently is the chinking on the south side of the home is cracking and falling off the house. When it rains we have water running down the inside of the walls. I bought some mortar and tried to repair a few spots. It looks like crap. The areas where the chinking had fallen off completly and I replaced it looks good. I feel like the only choice I have at this point is to remove all the chinking from the one side of the house, add more nails, clean it up and re chink. I have not attended the class so there is alot I don't know. Type/brand of mortar, type/size of nails, any tricks on applying the mortar etc. If there are any members that would be willing to come take a look at the house and give me any input I would be forever greatful. Or anyone that would like some hands on experience before doing thier own home or just want to see a completed member home. I am willing to pay for any help. We spent our budget on replacing the missing appliances, replacing a furnace, repairing plumbing and wiring etc. We have our first child on the way and I promised my wife a warm dry home for the winter and I'm anxious that I'm going to run out of time. If you want to see the house it is the fifth house down in the student built homes section labled "cheney log home" Please help! Scott 509-218-3210
