We are excitied about getting into a class and are starting to collect tools and logs.
We are always talking about this and have some questions that will be addressed in class but one that is naybe silly but valid is.
How do we, Me,My wife and best friend get the logs up to the roof and second floor?
Do we have to rent a boom truck or crane ? or is there "old fashioned ways" I have heard of people on this site building it themselves.

Thanks

yup, you're right:) you'll learn all about how to do this in class. really, it can be done. either with machines like cranes or 'the old fashioned way'. both work and have their own pros and cons. you're probably getting mighty tired of hearing it but take the class. its worth the wait:)

Will, We don't want to spoil it for you. If you go into class with a head that is an empty hole without knowing 1/2 the answers, it'll come to you in the natural order without you having to think it through three times. I can still remember when it hit me that I really could build a log home by just doing it. With the proper preemption, your teacher lead you through the process that will make the light go on. It is more than learning the four or five basic rules that makes it all work. It is about a mind set that allows you to realize that you can do it.
I took the class from Skip over 20 years ago. He always said that you can build a log house with the tools that will fit in the trunk of your car. I have proven him to be right. We are currently building a log house using the tools that could fit on a good sized lowboy trailer. Both methods are done every day with the exact same results. In the end, my family will own our home without a mortgage and we have enjoyed every single day of the build.
Now I've gotta go. My 18 year-old and I are finishing up the last of our bird blocks and getting ready to start nailing car decking on the roof tomorrow. If you don't know exactly what that means, don't worry. You'll grasp it all after class and you can come back to this date on the "members only" side of the forums and see the photos I post tonight. Welcome aboard.
PS. Our ridgepole weighs over 12,000 lbs and we found a way to park it 25' above the floor. If we'da had to rent a crane for the day it would have been worth it.

Here it is when it weighed about 13,500 lbs. Of course it is just a log until you put a house under it.
