scribing is beyond my skill and I daresay most other members...That is one major reason that we gravitated to the BnP method. Just cram the gaps full of insulation and mortar, and you are done. (this takes a while though). Anyway, sorry not to be of more assistance.

hi mike,
im thinking it could be one of a few possibilities. the first thing im thinking is are the scribers set correctly? a tiny bit out with them and it would be fairly noticable on the lateral groove. assuming they are set correctly its then possible that perhaps you are not taking enough out from the grooves and the log is grounding out on the log below. you should be able to take the log up a little and see any points of contact. are the grooves clean and free from any loose pieces of woodchip that may throw things out a bit? how far away from a nice tight joint are you? if its a really small amount and you are confident that its neither of the above then i would probably give it a good smack and hope it settles in.
hope this helps, let me know how you get on.
cheers
danny

thanks for the reply
the gap is only about 1/4 inch max and does not seem to be hung up on the lower log
i am just starting the cabin so maybe not all that exact on the scribe but the second log
was better then the first still a gap
i have been told to try to not increase the scribe for the gap and make sure the lateral groove is at least
2 1/2 inches wide . i will be out to camp this week for holidays and will try all suggestions
thanks again
mike just a beginner ha ha
