I have been building a 16 x 16 pole building to serve as my living quaters as I build. I am working on the 1/2 sleeping loft and trying to determine the size of beam I need. Knowing that the floor joist and flooring constitute weight in regards to load capacity, I am trying to figure out the weight of an 8 x16, 2 x6 tongue and groove floorin and the 8 or so 8 ft. 2 x6 floor joist. I know the carrying weight of the beam I want but want to make sure it works.

I need minimize the size the of the beam also. So, if I have to add support, can I hang it from my 6 x 15 lamenated center beam? Snow load would be for 2400 ft in Northern Idaho.
