Hey folks, I'm the new kid on the block, I'll be around to pick everyones brains but right now its late here in Maine. BTW, I just started cutting cedar logs for a whole round stock cedar log home. I like the Butt & Pass method and will focus my interest there. Any help you can send my way will certainly be appreciated. So right now, like I said, I'm in the cutting process, then peeling and lots of ground work but I'll need to know so much more hope you all can be of help!! Look forward to meeting other members.

You will get this advice from every member, SO, here it is from me: Take the class. You'll learn things like "how long should my overhangs be?" "how should I plan my floorplan" "how should I do my roof" "how should I treat my logs" "how should I peel my logs" "where should I get my logs" "how should I lift my logs" "what kind of foundation should I use (which by the way depends)" and so much more. Also, cedar is good against rot, but not so good in bending, so there are places to use it, and places you'll want pine, DF, etc. Anyway, the next couple trapping seasons will likely be taken up with your project.

My brothers name is Randy Smith also. I concur with Stressman, you want to take the class. You do NOT want to take the class halfway through your project. The system promoted on this site works extremely well all by itself. There are things you will learn in class that you will want to implement from the start of your build.
