We are signed up for the May 19 class & counting the days.
There is a 1/2 acre lot, which is on a slope, that we are considering buying, but wanted some thoughts anyone wanted to give us about it. There are pine trees on the land. It is on city water & sewer, directly across the road from a golf course, with views of the lake in a mountain town. BUT....it is half of an acre. I'm sure we could excavate some of the slope, but do you think we could build a two story, about 2,000 sq. ft. or so , with enough room to stack logs & maneuver them? We're hoping it could work, because of the location. Has anyone in LHBA built on sloping land or on land of that size?
Thanks for any comments.

My effective lot is smaller than 1/2 an acre. The space that I was able to clear is about 110 by 50. My slope is 6 feet in 30 or 1 to 5. I had such little land that I had to park a boom truck and lift all logs with out moving the truck. I would never advise anyone doing this - ever. I would suggest that you lay out how you will move the logs and try to have at least 25 feet all the way around your home. This should satisfy the set backs that are required.
Because the lot is small I would be careful on how high you build. I have seen some huge very high building built close to the property line. I can't think of a good word but oppressive come to mind...but it depends on the layout. If your road is below the house then a three story home will look really big. If the road is higher than the house, three stories will be really small... It just depends.
Look at my house. It looks like a monster from the road. It's 2565 sq-ft within a 30 by 30 log home.

You will need to think about were you will rack your logs. That might take up most of your half acre. For a house the size you are looking at it will require around 80 35' logs.
You will need to rack them in a single layer and you will probably have 4 racks at 35x35 each. Then after you peel them all you will need to have room to skid them all into place. I would think about looking for a larger lot.
