Looks like you got the last 2 spots Captn. Congrats. Do the classes usually sell out this early?

they don't schedule a class until they have a bunch of ppl signed up for notifications. That way, they are sure to fill it, and they don't waste time with unwanted classes. It only makes sense... supply and demand--they gauge supply and produce what is needed. They generally have been having classes a few times per year, so don't be discouraged if you didn't make it. I don't know how many cancellations, but say in a class of 15 partners, there is bound to be one that can't make it and has to cancel. Anyway, FWIW.
Keep on it, and you can get in.

Nah, I'm good. In the Boston class. The last class filled up with a week left to go. This time around there are 2 classes scheduled within 2 weeks of each other, Washington is sold out and Boston is well on it's way. I thought they might have a hard time selling out consecutive classes so close to each other. Evidently not.

It's still fresh enough to remember the excitement before the class. I also remember the end of the weekend. I never seemed to come down. I don't remember anyone else there. I almost envy you guys. No question about it, the cost of the class for both myself and wife together was a great family investment.
Look forward to seeing both of you on the Member's Only side. That's where we cut ourselves and bound our wounds together. Okay, that last part was a joke.

People don't trust banks/lenders/credit anymore .... first adjustable rate mortgages then the credit card fiasco .... followed by higher taxes on the way.
I can well imagine that more and more people are going to be looking for a different path than the one they once followed.
For us, the Log House is just a piece of what we're seeking ... it's freedom from the credit machine and a simpler life overall.
This year .... get rid of all credit card debt .... we're 90% there now, just a bit left to go, unfortunately. Then the car payments, then the house payment.
Debt free in 2013 is our new motto .... We may have to buy insurance and the basic costs of living, but I'm done using credit with the exception of borrowing to buy assets that produce income, al la Rich Dad, Poor Dad.

Yeah Skip would have been the first to tell you that his class was about financial freedom, and he used log construction to get there. It was a means to an end. You seem to already be open to that way of thinking, which is very good. You're ahead of the curve. I think you're going to enjoy the class a great deal. Although surprisingly, my taxes actually went down this year. (my 2009 taxes).

I make it a point NEVER to tell people how to spend their own money. I draw the line at people who want to spend my little slice of the pie.

It's not cheap, but what education is? Our reasons are simple.
What is the price compared with the dollars we've thrown away in interest payments over the past 30 years?
To pay off my current home on monthly payments will end up costing me an additional $250,000 in interest. We're paying about $2500 total for the class and airfare ..
A $2500 investment (1%) that will end up paying me $250,000 over 20 years? Backed up by 30+ years of success? A real money back guarantee?

I'm only upset that I didn't find this 30 years ago ....

Welcome aboard Captn. my wife and I were in the first Las Vegas class. Believe me you will be looking at trees different when you get back from class. Also it's great that your wife is attending with you, as I was ready and had reseached this site for over a year, but 1 weekend with Steve and Elsworth have my wife firedup and ready. Good luck.

Hey Captn, We actually plan on building 2 log structures one will be 30 X 30 and will be the living , kitchen and dining (possibly with a loft)then approx 15 to 20' away we will build a 20 X 25 or so for a bedroom, and connect with a wide (10 or 15') hallway. The reason for this is the size of the trees on our property will only allow for approx 35' log with a 10 to 12" top. Also want big covered porches front and back of the main structure. Hopefully dropping trees next weekend, have a friend who is a logger that said he would bring out a set of shears and cut all the trees in about 2 hours. I see you are in Houston, that is only about 2 hours from us, we live south of Lufkin close to lake Sam Rayburn. Will let you know when the log peeling starts. ha ha. Good Luck and anyone planning this adventure NEEDS to include their spouse.

How big is your lot? Pam and I would love to drive up and see your place sometime, I'm sure there is a campground of some sort nearby.

My husband and I will be in the May Washington class too... I am very excited. When I stumpled on this site a couple of years ago- it really resonated with me. This feels like this will be the way we can build a home without a mortgage (hopefully), pay as we go. Look forward to meeting you all!

I am going to the Boston class - I am looking for a place to stay. $200/night is a bit rich for my blood.
Since I will be flying from Atlanta, I don't think I would be able to pick you up. The pilots really don't like to make unscheduled stops. :(

We have 10 acres and will be harvesting our own trees from the property. We are currently living on the property in a mobile home. Land is paid for, only one more year of school for our youngest son and hopefully it will be time to do a little relaxing....other than work. There is a campsite close by on the lake, Hanks Creek Park, when you get done with the class let us know. We may be peeling logs by then.
