View Full Version : Log homes in San Diego, Ca?
Hello All,
Is anyone here from San Diego? I really like log homes and I'm thinking of taking the class in Feb, 2010. The thing is I haven't seen any log homes in San Diego and don't even know log homes are allowed or permitted in this city. I've done some searching online and couldn't find any source for logs around here. If I have to get logs from out of state (maybe Oregon?), would it be expensive for shipping? Any comments or info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
KL

First you need to do a little research. SD is not going to allow you to build a log home in the "normal" upscale residential neighborhoods. Are there still outlying areas of San Diego still referred to as rural? That's the place you'd likely to be able to build a log home. From what I know or remember of SD.

That's what I thought too about being able to build a log home in San Diego because of the restrictions. Also land in SD is very expensive. If I want a log home I might have to move outside of San Diego, but the commute to work will be a pain. Big Bear Lake is about 3 hour drive from SD, a very popular ski resort/area in southern Cali. Actually that is where I first stayed in a log home for my ski trip last year and got interested in log homes.
That's a beautiful log home being built there in BBL. I'll see if I can contact the owner to get some info and advice.
Thanks,
KL
