I am a framer and have built stick-framed homes for 20 years. I have a customer who has purchased a log home kit and is wanting me to submit a bid. I was wondering what the average labor price per square foot was for dry in. Thanks.

Not sure anyone can help you on this. We build Butt and Pass Real Log Homes. Not to be confused by any type of kit home.

Sorry but hope this helps.

hey zaner,

this is pretty much a diy site and lots of us get stuff from craigsist, etc. and some of us buy retail materials so costs can vary widely, also none of us do kits...

sorry we couldn't help!

I guess you have not even looked at the web site or know very little about logs homes. I have a suggestion, don't mess with them. You will be setting your self up for a ton of headaches.
Also, search this site for log home kit. That should answer all your questions. We do not do kits....

I'm in the North East and we can usually build a standard 28x40 cape with a labor price of about $ 24. per sq ft. Lot of variables, dormers, decks, and such but I typically start about that price.

This is not going to help at all....we are all owner/builders. We have no idea cost per square foot.

Blondie, your atitude stinks, lighten. Ya know some people can afford to pay whatever the price is for a cabin without having to find super deals...

Neal, your atitude stinks, lighten.

We are owners. We believe we have a superior method of building a log home with real logs. You know those round things that weigh about two tons each. It has nothing to do with kits... Hows my atitude? or attitude.

I couldn't give you a sq. ft. Number because I built metric.

Now that this dead thread has gone metric, I have to admit that my opinion makes as little difference to my life as it makes to anyone else's life.

Blondie doesn't need my help but your post made me smile. I don't think you have any idea what this site is all about. Generally speaking, we build for ourselves. I can't remember when most of us have or could calculate that figure.

Price per Sq Ft is a figure only relevant when paying someone else to build a home.

What a shameful hijack of a necrolourious thread! Bo, this all had nothing to do with how Blondie is or any progress anywhere. I am totally ashamed of you and I am considering calling a family meeting to have you banned from future family getogethers. If I had a better relationship with the administrators of this forum I think I'd try to have you banned as a Troll or some other scurilous title.

Then, on the other hand, we all know that I have no real relationship with anyone but you, Bo, an a few of the old rascals down to the Eagles hall. Most of those guys are on their last legs, so maybe I oughta side with you after all.

How ya doing, Blondie? We have been wondering if you are making any progress.

PS.... Haven't had a family getogether since we was kids and Uncle Harvey got out of jail. Now that was a party!

Yup, Bo has always been a bit of a clown and would do anything for a gag. Once when we was kids, the whole family, must have been 20 of us or so, went out to Kim's Chinese Restaurant for some big occasion. The folks made us wear shoes. They made the mistake of seating Bo in a booth on the aisle seat.

The place was crowded and they had put us all near the entrance door and there was a line of folks milling in slowly by us toward the fancy seats back by the fish/algae tank. We didn't know it was the Mayor and we didn't know it was the Mayor's Wife, but there was a dressed up old lady standing slowly next to Bo and her dress was pinched up between her bottom cheeks. It took little prompting to goad Bo into reaching over and pulling it out.

Looking back, I can see now that her reaction was predictable. She whirled around fast enough that the feathers on her hat nearly flew south and let Bo have it with a white gloved hand right across that gaptoothy grin. She screeched something about him being a miserable little urchin (good judge of character) and spun back around in a cloud of dust and resumed slowly waddling to her group's table.

You can imagine how stunned we all were, but that didn't mean that we were completely without our wits. Bo was pretty much in shock so he was useless, but Cousin Tom (who was spending the summer with us) was all eyes and ears and wondering what the proper response was. So I quickly whispered to him "Put it back.... She musta wanted it up there".

It all went about like you'd expect.

I think it would be Bo and Tom who'd do that "Who's on First" thing. I am more inclined to just sit back quietly and observe. Wasn't this thread supposed to be about money or something?

Truth of the matter is that our Family doesn't recognize Alaska and Hawaii as States. Panderson (Pandy) and Cindy was both born in Honolulu and that makes them... well we just try as best we can to hide them when we can.

Neither one of them has ever been much help in guiding Bo and Tom through these little humorous events. That night in the Chinese Restaurant, Cindy and Pandy was both playing with their chopsticks and noodles instead of keeping an eye open for opportunity. How is a person gonna lose any front teeth if he/she just sits there with her/his mouth shut?

To a young-un like Ronnie, it appeared to be a slap in the face that I received, but in reality, she patted my cheek, grinned, and said it was too bad I wasn't a couple years older.

And that place was so small, and with us kids all being crammed into one booth, I believe we commented about how much the bill would be based on square footage used, instead of the number of kids. Little did we know those kinds of calculations would come in handy one day. So technically this isn't a hijacked thread.

And that snot-nosed little sis was the one who told on me to Ma, and I ended up getting my hide tanned later. Now that could be construed as hijacking. But then again, she was stacking up egg rolls with her chopsticks, like a Telly stacking logs. So I guess it was in her blood too.

OK, I'll admit that you have me there. For the sake of brevity, let me just say that there is more to the story of our extended family and it gets pretty complex pretty quick.

Stressman is nearly related by marriage and he has some information that might sound almost contradictory to the untrained eye. Best if we just ignore him.

Boy if you don't read every word that is posted on here you miss out on the telling of a bunch of the family secrets. Thanks for being gentlemen brothers and leaving us girls secrets just that, secrets. I suppose it is mostly due to the fact that we keep quiet about some of those stories that you just really don't want to have out. I think you may bluster about some stuff to cover the other stuff! Guys don't forget this is the public side. If you go on like this in front of folks that don't understand our family you might scare someone important off. Or----you might just entice them to the other side to see what in the world goes on over there.

The book is a collaborative family effort... Bo, Tom, and I are thinking it over.
