View Full Version : Book Suggestions?
I'm new here, but really want to start learning how to build a log home. What are some good books to check into?
Thanks! Can't wait to post pics of my new cabin. ;)

Try
"Living Homes" by Thomas J. Elpel,
and
"Your Low Tax Dream House" by Steve Carlson.

That's right, boxes of log house books that I have been collecting since I was a little kid. They fueled my desire to do that manly thing with an axe and a froe and kept me going until I took the LHBANA class some 20 years ago. The class gave me the inspiration to build a different kind of log home and a different lifestyle than what I had always seen in the books. We are building our last home now and those books will, hopefully, find their way to a bookshelf in the loft.
I guess what I'm saying is that there is little in print that gave me any real boost toward this goal, other than the contents of this website. I do agree with 2cents and her suggestion about the low tax house book. Though it is not aimed at log home-ownwers, it was invaluable to us in the planning stages.
