Hello Again Everyone! I posted on this board about 6 months ago (or so) and I was looking to either buy some Bare Land in either WA. or OR. I just bought 2 Acres in La Pine Oregon and now I am at the point of doing "Under The Surface" researching instead of just surface research for Log Cabin Building. I am living by myself, so a larger size Cabin is not wanted/needed, just a cozy smaller Log Cabin. Either a 2 bedroom if a single level Cabin is built, or a 1 bedroom + Loft, and then of course 1 Bath ; Kitchen ; Livingroom ; porch I do not mind if it is just a one level with no open Loft, although I do like the "open loft" idea. Without cutting any corners, what do you think the cost would be for what I stated above? I plan on attending the class to learn what I do not know about the building a Log Cabin process, then if I am fortunate, get some assistance from any volunteer's and hire who I NEED to, as I plan on doing as much as I can myself, with different degree's of help when needed.
ANY responses OR advice are GREATLY appreciated !!
To ALL, Have A GREAT Day !!!!

Answer: It depends on a lot of variables.

What you will learn in class is that there are scads of ways to do this thing and, by the way, you can do it. There is no doubt in my mind that, if the goal is to build a very good structure for a very affordable price, you are at the right spot. How fast, how lazy, how big, how glitzy, how the County treats you, how you treat the County, and how much help you can scrounge are some of the many variables. I left class knowing that it would happen for me. That didn't happen when I talked to contractors or kit house builders.

La Pine is a great community. We have friends there and have been many times. Hope to hear how your build goes and if we're in the area, would be glad to help. You shouldn't have trouble finding trees there either!

If your crow had flown 80 miles due south from La Pine last March 25th, he'da seen my Son and I falling the logs for our house. I concur there is no problem finding logs in your area. Mine came from a Craigslist wanted ad..

That is what we will have in our 24' x 24' cabin. We used all of the methods taught in class and paid as we went along. We will be done next summer.

That is the short answer.

I love that dog. I have toyed (pardon the pun) with getting a chihuahua for a long time now. The only problem is that I think I might have some yardbirds, and the yippy dog would likely chase and/or kill them.

I had a great dog years ago (half chihuahua and half something-else, probably feist) that was my best friend and companion. She lived for around 9 years and died under tragic circumstances (I don't care to describe it). After her death in 1991, I haven't had another dog. (starting to sound like a marriage, huh?) That's been a huge hole in my life, and I'd love to get another one.

Anyway, great looking family member. I especially like the regal posture and squinty eye. It very much looks like what I imagine Aztecs/Incas/Mayans looked like when seeing the first Europeans.

Never thought I'd have a yapper dog but the wife is worried about the empty nest syndrome (our Son is almost 18) and she suddenly had to copy all the other old ladies. We have become a fan of the dog whisperer and have incorporated some of his ways and it seems like this dog just doesn't want to act like all the yappers I've ever had to be around.

I really like her. Only 7 months old and still acts like an out of control pup and yet she is easily controllable and a very loving little rascal. Doesn't bother us when we eat. Doesn't yap uncontrollably. Only gets in bed with us when we want it. Can let her outside anytime day or night and she stays within the boundaries we have set for her. Never chews things but her toys and my socks and even then she never chews them to pieces. She lets the big dog be the boss and yet won't take any guff.

As for the regal posture and the sleepy eye... She was just tired.
