What provisions if any are necessary when desigining and installing the plumbing system waste and vent system to address the shrinking and settling of logs. The waste and vent being a rigid system of PVC piping.

whichever kit you choose will tell you how to deal with the settling. If you build BnP, you don't have to deal with settling, which is a big plus.

I've had the plumbing in my B&P house for over a year now without any problems. I cannot detect any shrinkage with regard to windows, doors, plumbing, or ductwork. I'm not sure how the kit folks deal with shrinkage.

Of course this gets old, but the class explains how to get logs for the best price. That alone could save the cost of the class several times over.

The association does have some "stock plans" that are pre-engineered for WA, and may be modified for code compliance in places like CA and FL. I think you get a discount on these when you take the class. Generally a good idea to pick them up with the discount

The class also teaches what is a good (easy) floor plan and what is a bad (difficult) plan. The stock plans have suggested interiors, and I believe these are still available to non-members, although I could not find it now...

Plans are available to members only and are another way to recoup the cost of the class. I have the 30' X 30' plans and they cost me considerably less than having them drawn locally.<img src="/sites/all/modules/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" border="0" />

I too can say that settling is not an issue with B & P
construction. My parents sold their B & P cabin several
years ago. Over sixty years and not a problem.

I recently sold my 42 year old home. It required
extensive repairs and remodeling. The cabin is
still like new, the house was worn-out.

My grandparents were shooting from the hip when they
built the cabin. Yes, they did make a few mistakes, but
I'm surprised at how many things they did get right.
