OK, used tool quest has been very fruitful. I'm taking the class at then end of this month (2/09) and I'm sure I'll get to ask this there... but
for rebar pounding with a ground driver bit:
Will a hammer drill work or does it have to be a demolition hammer?
My only experience with jack hammers was cracking a concrete slab with a massive air powered one that loosened some fillings...

A demolition hammer is rated at 2 or 2 1/2 horse power and weighs about 30 pounds.
Some hammer drills are very small and weighs a pound more or less...
Nough said.

OK!
Seen a few on craigslist around here, and ebay.
Is the $179 one on Harbor freight good enough? I'm sure I saw one on some member's website being used. i don't want to spend $500 for one unless I have to. I sure don't want to do it all with a sledgehammer either...

Status: TAKING the February class !!! buying used tools, talking to loggers and shopping for land.

This is covered in great detail in several threads in the members section. It might come up briefly in class but afterward you can get all the info from the forums.
