Cob construction and log homes

Is anyone familiar with cob houses? The old 3' thick walled cottages (usually with a thatched roof) that you see in old english villages. I love the look of a free formed wall, and envision some sort of mixture with logs and cob construction. Maybe I'm thinking more along the lines of Timber framing? My first love is log homes, but I've recently read on cobs and the fact that its fairly easy to do. Any suggestions?

Here's a "cob-like" house I've always liked. It's made of what they call "light clay".
Basically it just straw mixed in a clay slip (which has the consistency of a milkshake) and then compacted into a form between the timbers of a timber frame house.

I really dig the fireplace. I love how the rocks just blend & seem to melt into the wall. The mantle piece is great, also.
