I am just curious (having not written it down at the time) but what is the rule concerning the depth of notches? I seem to remember that if one makes ones notches too deep or too shallow, there will be a runaway effect until the builder is forced to notch too deeply or the reverse.

I was trying to describe this to someone and couldn't recall...

Yep, if you don't really plan ahead, your tip will not cover the butt of the log under it; the notch will be deeper than the diameter of the tip, hence no notch is possible. I have some diagrams I can scan if you want them..
Thank God we don't have to think that much; we have enough to worry about! :roll:
