Hello, I am doing as much research as I can now regarding building my log home. I plan to build with in the next 5 year or 60 months that sounds sooner.
I just ran into a gentleman that used to teach log home building at a local college, he has since retired. He got my interest when he told me that the total cost of his logs was $1,000.00, delivered. Ofcourse now I am thinking that could be just the fuel cost....
In talking to him he suggested using red pine for the logs and to peel them and treat them asap.
But the most interesting thing he suggested was to build with them immediatly as the best place for them to dry is as a wall. Which does make sense as they are off the ground exposed to wind and sun, and locked in place to prevent warping and dog legging.
My concern here would be shrinking and settling causing doors and windows to not open/close correctly.
So what is everyone ones thoughts...open to all opionons....
