The north side of our log home does not have enou
enough of an overhang and we get water from t
time to time. The upper quarter is cedar and
then it meets the bottom 3 qurater which are
full round logs. Is it possibe to attach
another roof overhang where the cedar meets
the logs and run it the full length of the north
side? It would be easier then trying to
expand the existing roof as its about 28 feet
at its peak. Any advice would be greatly
appreciated!
Thanks!

I don't see any problems adding a separate roof as you suggest. Surely, the roof being attached to the framed cedar section would be the way to go (as you are thinking) since it'll be the easiest to flash. I'm not sure if it's feasible or practical for your home, but perhaps getting more from the roof addition by making it a porch area could be more beneficial. You'd have to be careful if you attempt to increase the overhang of the existing roof, as there are cantilever limitations, though knee braces could be employed to gain additional reach.

A good covered porch is a real thing of beauty. Just pretend you planned it that way all along and you'll be the only one who knows.
