Hello,

I'm a new poster here and I'm glad I found this forum. I have been a hobbyist woodworker for many years and last fall I took the plunge and attended a two week course on full scribe log home construction.

In short, I got bit by the log building bug and I haven't been happy ever since I got back to the city (Chicago). I am planning to move to New Hampshire and look for work as a log builder. But, I could as easily move anywhere if I thought I'd find a job and be able to learn more about this great craft.

Regrettably, I am not in a position to go out and build my own place yet, though that remains my ultimate goal. Most of my friends and family think I am nuts and are not terribly supportive of this dream. So, I want to find work building log homes, and really learn the craft well. Then, someday I will build one for myself.

I figure it is hard to find work at a distance, so my plan is basically to go somewhere that they build a fair number of log homes and just start knocking on doors of log builders and introduce myself.

I know that I am not going to be happy until I build some log homes, but I'm not sure of my approach to getting started. Any and all advice is welcome.

Paul
