Lodgepole Pine, Red Pine, Southern Yellow Pine or Redwood for Building an Awesome Log Home. And, If you are not fortunate to have these on your own property which is going to be the most affordable. Also, Less prone to Bugs and Rot. Let's say I will build in Colorado or Upper State New York Area.
Thanks

All those are good, but the best logs are the ones you already have. (or can get for free/cheap)

I would add that If I had my way, I might use cedar for the bottom logs (rot resistant, smell good) and other logs for the rest. I would like to use Doug Fir for structural members (esp beams) for its strength. I don't know about redwood, unless you want to use 4' diameter logs. I don't know about harvesting juvinile redwoods.
The cedar is negotiable, but the DF is almost a must. Not a big deal in Washington State.

SO, you would use Cedar for the bottom 4 Logs and any of the others for the rest with the exception of the Doug Fir for the beams? that all sounds good to me. I'm still learning and I have a ton more to learn. I know very little.
