about buying log home kits?

can anyone recomend any log home kits in the southeast usa? ive been looking at the jim barna kits and heritage kits. any info. on the two companies would be deeply appreciated. thank you; cricket

You've stumbled into the place that is going to save you from wasting your money on a kit home. Had you not found this site, you almost certainly wouldnt have learned the truth about log homes.

Start you research now by reading everything on the main page, then some of the forums. From there you'll probably be ready to take the class, and that's when the REAL learning will begin.

Just to be fair, if you really want to compare kit homes after reading the information here, you may want to check out the forums at www.lhoti.com They offer more kit information. I understand that that the butt and pass system is not for everyone. Just go into any contract with your eyes wide open and as much information as possible.

Cricket, all the posts are good advice- be as informed as you possible can going into the purchase of a kit, if that's what you want to do. Check out LHoti. Read everything you can, and keep in mind that the southeast is one of the most challenging in the country for keeping wood from rotting, without proper building practices. I've talked to a lot of local folks here in GA that have kit log homes- they all love them, some can take the maintenance costs better than others.
