I own a piece of land in Colorado. It is covered with Aspen. I have never found any mention of aspen as a viable building material. Does anyone have any info?

You can use most any species to build with.

In these forums you will mostly find species that happend to be ubundant in the different locals where many of the builders happen to be living or within reasonable trucking distance.

The adage "use what you got" holds true for any local.

Aspen is good as any other, especially if its free.

What makes a log better one over another has more to do with taper, size and weight. Winter cut tend to be easier to work with, but harder to peel. Summer cut tend to be easier to peel but will come with increased weight.
