Did I goof with my exterior stain

Hello,

I recently restained a portion of my log home with Cabots solid color exterior stain because I wanted a solid color. Here is my dilema, I learned after the fact of applying it, that the stain is a film-forming stain and not a penetrating stain. Cabot has a great reputation and I wanted to use their stain, just curious if I goofed by getting a film forming product?? Thanks!

Film forming stains are a little more likely to have problems with peeling than penetrating stains but there are a lot of other factors that go into whether you have problems. You will know for sure in about 5 years if things start to peel off. Then you may have to do a little corn cob blasting or something similar to take off the peeling stain. This is just my opinion. There are lots of opinions out there. Now that it's on there, don't fret. Just wait and see and enjoy your log home.
