Anyone stay at the Monroe Motel? I'm not that picky but don't want to be kept awake all night be neighbors or scratching if you know what I mean. I would appreciate any reviews even if you only got a look at it from the outside or heard other talking about it because this trip is going to strain my budget a bit. Thanks alot and look forward to seeing who ever is attending the Jan. 12th and 13th classes!

I did. It's very basic, but clean and quiet. The people running it are a bit hard to understand and don't have much personality, but I didn't go there to chat with the help. (after all, I was only there only to shower and sleep) No alarm clock in the room, so bring one. (I used my cell phone alarm clock!!!) If I were to do it all over again, I would probably make an effort to stay at the Wallace Falls Lodge or the Gaylord House instead, since the cost wasn't all that much different, but with better perks. I don't think even the chain hotels had much cost difference over the Monroe Motel. (IIRC, I paid around $80/night after taxes, despite what the LHBA "best travel deals" page says)

Hey Ryan:

I stayed at the Monroe Motel too. Very basic, but quiet. Located about 1 minute from a mall with plenty of stores for food and such, right off the main drag going through town.

I was there this past November at $54 per night. But like Rod said, if you don't mind basic this is it. If you want room service or a nice lobby and such, this is not the place to go...lol

No complaints. Close to food (Clay Oven) & Safeway.
Pretty cold that night but the room heater finally got
the room up to temperature. Since it is close to the
Clay Oven you have to go there and have the Log Home Special. Friendly & clean, the food is nothing short of incredible. If you want ambiance go into Seattle and have desert at the Space Needle. Don't order dinner at the Space Needle...very expensive. World class dining, world class experience, and world class instruction. What else could you want for an incredible weekend?

Ryan,

I stayed at the Best Western and was woken up in the middle of the night, so as far as saving a few bucks,
I think the Monroe Motel would be fine... Like Rod said, bed and a shower is all you really need anyway...

I stayed at the Best Western (March 2004) and had no problems even with dozens of kids running around because there was a giant paintball tournament in the area that weekend. They had a good continental breakfast and iirc I paid about $65-$70 per night.

I slept two nights in a van I rented ( Alamo ) at an airport ( that I needed anyway ), using sleeping bag and a small pillow, camping at Skips parking lot for free

It wasn't very comfortable, no rain over the head... no shower for two days... no washlets... but a lots of chu-gi in the bushes, and... I saved some money. I did it at the end of May, I won't do this in January even in so hot Washington State climate !

We stayed at the Best Western. They were quite accommodating and convenient. The only problem we experienced was with noise from the next room when a, um, shall we say, entertainingly amorous couple arrived at 3:00 am.

The next morning, the manager mentioned that a major remodel is planned, and that they'd address the paper-thin walls during the remodel.

P.S. BTW, Rick's recommendation of the Clay Oven is spot-on. The staff was very willing to explain everything on the menu, and the food was fantastic.

If you don't mind the drive and its a beautiful one, drive to Gold Bar. Its a one horse town with a small motel in it. I stayed there for $39 a night. About 13 miles out of Monroe I believe. It was clean and quiet and the manager didn't charge me any more when I brought another student with me who had nowhere to stay. Eat in Monroe though if you want something good. There was a small restaurant and bar at the motel and I think a McDonalds and maybe a Subway down the road a bit. It was not located on my GPS that I rented so it is an off the wall place.

Gold Bar Motel. Plenty of room with a bed, couch and small kitchen.

I stayed at the Days Inn in Everett Washington. it is located at 1122 Broadway, Everett, WA 98201. Phone: 425-252-8000, Fax: 425-259-1961. The rate for a single queen size room, smoking or non smoking is about 65 per night with taxes included. It was an acceptable business class room, with all the normal amenities you would expect from a Days Inn including internet access, HBO and continental breakfast.

It is easy access off I-5 coming into Everett from SeaTac. It is also an easy 20 minute drive past some fine scenery on the way to Monroe. Route 2 access which is the main route to Monroe is easily accessible a few blocks from the hotel, and you have access to all that a town the size of Everett has to offer. It is also located within walking distance of the bay at Everett. I spent three nights there and have no complaints.

If you want a really quiet place for you and the spouse or just you, I highly recommend this place in North Bend. It is about 45 minute drive out 203 but very nice and a pretty drive.

Roaring River Resort. Very quaint, small. Breakfast included and served to your room by the owners. The rock room is cool, has a big sauna. They have a cabin for larger groups also.

Rooms are not cheap but great place to see eagles, elk, sasquatch and get some rest. You also can go see Snoqualmie Falls and Mt. Si. Those folks familiar with Northern Exposure and Twin Peaks will get a kick out of it as allot of filming was done in these locations.

Monroe now has many more places to eat at over the last few years. No new hotels however. Long drive to the class but when in Rome ....

God bless,

Paul
