Hi I'm Chris, I will be attending the Jan 19-20 classes. This whole thing sounds too good to be true, finacial freedom and all that! My friends have alot of questions about log homes that I cant answer yet. I live in Mason County, Washington and I hear it's realy difficult to get permits. My friend that is building a house had to get his plans engineered. (not that I really understand any of that) I have seen pictures of the home built by the three pizza guys on Hartstene Island which is in Mason County. (Unless there is another Hartstene Island some where, but I can't find it on Google Maps) Is there any one that has been thru this process or understands it?
I appreciate any help, thanks.

Mason County WA is not any harder to deal with than any other place in Washington and easier than most. You will have to have your log home engineered. That's where guys like me come in.

I have said this before...
Go to your county building and planning departments. IMHO, and I have every form and permit in Washington, they will be your best resource.
They will have a ton of stuff. If you have more specific questions, my email is below...
Washington State also has a ton of stuff on line... so a Google search will also answer many questions....
All log homes in Washington will require engineering, and Mr. Rock is good... If you use the basic plans, it gets even better....
Get your land ASAP...

Has anybody built in Oregon? I am looking into taking the class as soon as is allowed by finances and would be very interested in what anyone in Oregon has to say.

I've engineered homes for several LHBA members who have built in Oregon. You will require engineering but if properly done you should not have a problem getting a permit.
