In fact, you should really go through his whole "diary" as it'll show you all the steps taken and how nice this system is. This page really helped show me that the LHBA is for real.

Romex wouldn't pass code here. I have very lenient codes to meet here, but I was required to get the wiring that comes with its own conduit in order to run wires behind my chinking. The mortar could possibly eat through romex eventually is what I was told. Anyway, it's run the same way just with metal boxes instead of plastic. In other words, twice the price for materials.
Also, the inspector said that since our walls make it harder to wire, we could get relief from the spacing requirements on the outer walls. He's pretty cool and doesn't get a big power trip from his job luckily, so it's much easier than it could be...

Basil, do you have any concern over the mortar corroding the metal boxes?

The metal boxes are rated to be set in concrete. That's why code has required them. You could use these boxes just about anywhere but they are expensive. I'm not worried about anything but paying for it.

Plastic jacket being eaten before metal jacket, huh? I would have asked if UF would be acceptable to use, since it's direct bury, non-metallic cable.
Hmmmmmm, they outlawed knob & tube too, but there's plenty of houses that still have it without a problem. (as long as you don't stick a penny behind the fuse) Good thing our government is protecting use from our own stupidity.

Yeah, Rod, I was wondering if the plastic ones would do since I don't see the concrete eating them. I expect the metal ones MIGHT be a problem a hundred years down the road. Just keep it away from the new treated wood that the gov't says is safer. ;)

Why are you running wire through walls? Floor jacks are great and pass code if they can be closed and seal out water. Mine are just like in the gym floor and quite handsome if I say so myself! How much easier is that with a nice crawl space like we have? The only switches on log walls in my house are at the doors. A few feet of conduit required and no problem in seven years with any corrosion. Think outside the box.
