so i was wondering if any members were in the N.C. area. we are interested in a log home and would like to build ourselves. we are wanting to attend the class and all, but we are worried that we wont be able to build in N.C. what type of wood can we use? is there any of that type in the N.C. mountains? if anyone has any advice, please let us know. thank you, the cash family.

Kim,
There are a few of us here in NC/SC.
I live about 15 minutes from Lenoir, NC. Not mountains, but hills ;)
Sure you should be able to build in NC. Just depends on the county you want and everything.
Most Logs can be used for building a home. Just depends on how much $$ you want to spend and your time considerations.
The class is worth the $$ and the plane tickets and everything else! My wife and I took it in Feb 06 and are now planning things, trying to gather things to keep our costs low.
I am planning to have people over on Labor day, if there are willing members to practice on how to do this. I am building a practice cabin for my children to play in.
Let me know if you are interested and I can give you more details!
