Hey folks. I'm planning to build a log home in Central NC and thought I'd start a thread for folks to discuss ideas relevant to this geographic area.

We (myself and my husband) have not yet attended a class, but we are sure that this is what we want to do for our future home. We currently live in Rock Hill, SC (30 min south of Charlotte), but intend to possibly move closer to the mountains outside of Asheville. We are interested in making some connections with people we can work with to make each of our builds more fun. We would totally be up to helping anyone in NC out with their build!! And it is nice to know where to turn for help when we are ready for our build!!!
good luck,
Kim
Hey neighbors! We are in Charlotte NC and have land in Lancaster Co. SC. Kudos to you for starting this thread. We are in the research phase and have not taken the LHBA class. A log home nestled into our forest looks pretty good in my mind...I just have to make it real. I would also like to partner up with people in the area.

We just bought land near West Jefferson, NC, on the New River. We haven't attended classes either. A friend has lots of timber near our land but he has told me it is knottie pine. Can that be used for logs?

Flyfisher,
You can use whatever logs you want. The philosophy is to do whatever it takes for the minimum amount of cash.
I will be using Yellow pine, white pine, poplar, maybe even some Hickory or Oak! Whatever happens to be on my land so that I won't pay $50,000 or so for the milled logs you will usually get from a kit builder! They will just need to be long enough and straight enough.
Hope that helps!
