My husband and I built a log home in 2004. It is the strongest home you can get. We stayed in it during Hurricane Katrina(and we live 3 blocks off the beach). Everyone made fun of us for building a log home in this area, but it was a piece of land next door to my mother-in-law. After the storm we had minimal damage to the exterior of the home. If we had not gotten 3' of water inside we would have been fine. But....the other homes in the area had to be torn down or were taken down by the storm. Afterward, we had so many people come by and ask who we bought the logs from and that they were going to rebuild, but using logs. We were so proud, especially since only 3 of us built this home, my husband, his friend, and me. We call our selves blood, sweat, and tears. Tina
