I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on which reading material to START with. Do I need a general overview? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :D

If you do a search on "book list" on the forums, there are quite a few threads that discus this with some good book titles and authors mentioned.

If you plan to take the class, it is not necessary to read before hand. Unfortunately, there is a lot of bad information on log building that is available in the modern books sold by the big bookstore/box store chains. Reading those, can only confuse the unfamiliar or uninitiated.

You should read more about general topics such as how to schedule your home building/construction projects, home building tax information, how to find and buy property and etc. over any actual log building books.

Once you've taken the class, the variety of books on log building will be more useful to you as you will be able to spot the inadequacies and short comings they often contain and find the actual information that may be useful to your specific needs.
