full basements are not very common in the northwest, but in the midwest where i grew up, everyone had a basement. i'm really interested in having a full basement under my log cabin, as opposed to a slab or piers or crawlspace.

has anyone in the northwest built a basement under their log home? i'm wondering if there were any issues with permitting since they are not common out here.

also, i think our property may have a high water table (?), and i'm wondering if this might prevent us from building a basement. does anyone have any insight or experience? i want to be prepared before i get too set on it, only to be disappointed if i find out if really can't be done.

thanks,

We've got one in our plans - it just made too much sense. Coding isn't an issue, at all - 6 mil. visqueen barrier is common. It'll just depend on your land what you can do.

I think basements are becoming more & more common in Wester WA and are far more common in those overseeing their own projects.

Though, if you look at the older homes in the actual city (Seattle) it is VERY common.

This has been discussed at length in the members section. Just about every type of basement has been used and discussed. If I remember 2cents you are signed up for an upcoming class thereafter you'll have answers to many other questions you might have.
