View Full Version : Have to ask...

I see that there is room in the class for late April, though further reading on the website I found a disclaimer:

"Disclaimer: All material provided in this website is provided for amusement purposes only. "

I've got to ask...'amusement purposes only"? For the posts that I've read, it wouldn't seem like it, but a genuine business isn't likely to have a post stating the amusement factor as well, unless they are trying to hide something...

Is this class genuine in that the 'home' is livable from what is taught in the class?

I'd be curious to speak/email someone that has actually taken the class that can vouch for this and your experiences as well.

My short story is that for the last 4 years trying to protect my step child, from a nutcase natural father, by paying out the nose for lawyers, I'm at my wits end while working my fingers to the bone...I would really love for this to be true so I can provide this little girl a future.

Please feel free to email me at bryanat300 at gmail dot com.

Skeptical Perhaps~

Hello Bryan, I thought I've been over every word on the LHBA website and have never seen the "amusement purposes" language. Can you please direct me to where you saw that?

Thanks, freddy

Hi Edward,

I took the class 3 years ago this month and I have my logs and will be beginning construction within the next couple months. I'm hoping to join many others who have taken the class and went on to build a log home. I understand your concern with that disclaimer but I'll be the first to say that everything taught in the class is legit. The techniques do provide you the knowledge to build a livable log home.

I assume that disclaimer is there for some legal reason and nothing else.

I'm tired, got a long day coming up tomorrow, and need sleep bad, but I'll take a shot at your question so you don't feel like you're hangin'.

I believe that's just a little dry humor and a poke at government and legal system (something I believe founder, Skip Ellsworth isn't particularly fond of) I can see how someone (who's already skeptical of this seemingly "too good to be true" site) could only further question it's legitimacy when reading something like that.

I strongly recommend reading through the forums, especially the General discussion area. You're not the first to question LHBA's authenticity. I'm sure you'll find your answers in there.

OK, that's it. The screen is getting fuzzy. ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz

That's been there in some fashion since skip taught the class, I think. You'd have to know skip...

edwardbj,

Yes, I think you should take it as a form of "legal humour."

As for "legit businesses" not using similar language, well, I can tell you that I worked for a company valued to around 60 Million, the leader in its industry and we published quite a few quirky things. Probably the most memorable was our tag line, which you would find on any adverstising under our logo and on our business cars, "Making Toys for the Children of Rich People since 1982."

Some of us in business are very aware of the legallities of doing business, what is considered free speech and that there are quite a few "customers" that would sue you at the drop of a hat.

I worked for one company where the owners would answer threatening legal letters in crayon---AND they never lost a case.

I think you should take this particular verbiage in the same light.

By the way, the website here is public. What the class covers is not entirely covered on the site. Basically, you only get part of the story on the web site. If you use only those ideas preseneted, you miss understanding the building method taught in class.

I don't think any business would want to be held responsible for actions of a few that may act on said information without getting the whole story.

I taught subsonic airframe design about seven years ago.
Everything was relevant amd deemed accurate but I had
to insert a disclaimer that was very similar to this one.

We live in a very litigous (sic) society, and steps have to be
taken to keep the lawyers at bay.

As for the validity....
Might have been the smartest move I have ever made.
It's like I've always said; "Triple the price of the class
and it would be the steal of the century."

Well worth it for me.

Hey Bryan, no worries man. Rest assured the class is truely legitimate. As others have said, this is just a bit of dry humor and once you hang around a bit you will see what I mean. Hell, the whole entire concept here itself is against our normal way of thinking and living.

And without knowing your situation I am sure you yourself could have a few humorous yet dry comments about the legal system and it's workings with the current wrangling you might be going thru eh?

Don't sweat it Bryan. Read more on here and then decide. My wife and I JUST took the class last month and should be purchasing our property in about 4-6 months and building next year. Our current apartment has become a giant storage shed with tools and building supplies all over the place!

Good luck and best wishes. Hope to see you around.
