Hi I'm a newbe still dreaming of someday building a log cabin, I have just started to investigate building my own and I am considering taking the class in the future. I was just wonder how long does it take to build a log cabin, 25x25 I know times will very but I was just trying to get a rough idea what the average time is. Thanks
Welcome Tigers,
There are several other threads addressing this issue but everytime it basically goes unanswered because there are absolutely too many variables involved. But some class members have built entire homes in a couple months and others have been building for 10+years.
With me about ready to start building I have a general timeline that I'm hoping to stay within. Working weekends mainly and occassional weeknights I'm planning on being done in 18mos. 24mos tops! Now I'm also planning on occassionally missing some days for weddings, parties, family, sick, etc. I'm planning on doing most all the work except the foundation, electric box connections, and furnace hookup. But I think I have a realistic time frame building part-time.
Full time... I feel I could have it done in about 5-6 months...weather permitting.

One person can build a reasonably sized, comfortable log home in two years. Two people can build it in one year. Three people can build it in two years, and if you have four or more people trying to build your log home, you are unlikely to ever complete it.

I can tell you what kind of timing we're giving ourselves to get our home completed in our particular situation. We're hiring my brother-in-law to work while he's out of college this Summer and if the timing of our loan, land work, and logs works out as hoped, with the addition of a week or two of my husband's vacation time, we plan to have our 40 X 40 two story dried-in by the end of Summer. We'll be renting a forklift too, so hopefully we'll actually get the logs up and roof on in those 2 weeks, but you never know. Add to that time our evenings and weekends fairly frequently and as needed throughout the Summer as well. We're *hoping* to have atleast the first floor be liveable by the end of Summer. But, after Summer we expect to slow down a fair deal. I'll be having our 3rd child this fall, and that'll slow things down too! Since we'll be using a construction loan, we're giving ourselves a full 24 months (assuming the loan goes through) to complete the home. That'll give us over a year to finish the interior work to our liking on evenings and weekends. We *could* finish the house MUCH quicker, but reality is that we'll probably take up the full 24 months or darned close.

Thank you for sharing this quote Basil. I hadn't heard this particular one, but I'm sure it's absolutely true.
