View Full Version : Nut spinner

A few years ago I thought up a way to spin nuts onto all-thread using a drill.
So I made a bunch of prototypes.

Some worked a bit better than others, but iirc they all worked.

Materials used: tennis ball, racquet ball, a bouncy ball, a chair caster (a screw was used to prevent the wheel/hub rotation).
The yellow wheel, and the smallest black wheel, are both tires from toy vehicles.
Almost anything works.

Most of the bolts are actually old shelf/furniture feet (I liked the low profile plastic and 'integrated washer' effect), but normal bolts work too.

Just put a bolt through the center (use washers) and toss the finished product into a drill chuck and you're ready to spin some nuts fast.

Hand start the nut. Then use the drill to spin the round thing of your choice at a low/medium speed... and bring it in contact with the nut you want to spin onto a bolt/all-thread. You'll figure out forward and reverse.

Now that my right hand can tell the weather, this thread is to help other's avoid a bit of the pita of installing things like RPSL,s joist hangers, rim joists, et cetera.

Give the idea spin.

The first one and the last one seem like best options.
