Hi!
Before you start to laugh at the possibility: my husband and I were married in our log home (my father walked me down the aisle and 2 years later died unexpectedly - I just can't imagine leaving this home!). It was built in 1979 and is a true log cabin not pre-fab. It's on 2 acres and is being encroached by development so we want out some day sooner than later. It is a dream cabin with over 2,000 sf on main level and loft and a 2,000 sf basement. Not to mention the memories we have made here.
We watch a lot of barnwood builders and see that they disassemble and reassemble historic cabins all the time...so...is it even possible that we could hire it done to ours?! We have a chance to purchase 8 acres of land in a much more rural area. Rather than spend 200k to build a new house can we just move ours?!

The log shell of may be dismantlable but it depends on how it was built and whether the logs are deteriorated. Post a few photos.

There is a lot going on in a house that size that is not usually worth salvaging. Interior walls, floors, ceilings, etc.

I know what my Dad would have said... Never fall in love with something that can't love you back. A deep seated relationship can easily feel like love from one perspective and nothing at all from another.

PS... We have only lived in ours for two months now and but I have developed at least 10 years worth of feelings for the place.

That's good advice and I know my dad would say I am throwing money down the toilet. But I just wanted to make very sure it was too expensive of an endeavor to explore. Glad you have yours...they are so special. I will post some pictures.

Frankfamily, lets see those log home pictures! Where are y'all located? What's the distance between your current location and the 8 acres of land? It might be possible to move the thing whole, or mostly complete, I've seen it done before.

My folks moved an old cabin years ago, I want to say maybe 25 miles? But it was back roads of Saskatchewan. The electric company drove along and lifted some lines that were in the way.

No idea what it cost, but the cabin was$1 from relatives lol.

I've seen an old farmer moving one down the highway, on old hay wagons, on a Sunday. Complete walls, no roof.
