I know this question will vary
So looking for variable answers!

Those that didn't have a lot of timber on the property who have built, can you give me an idea per log that you paid?
I'm in BC Canada so I'm "hoping" supply can be good enough to not break bank. I am doing a pre cost spreadsheet so I have basics covered of what I can do and what I cannot do, and what I can learn to do!

We are paying $5/ft for 33' or longer ponderosa pine with 18" butts / 10 -12" tops. The price was about $3.50-$4 one to two years ago when we had a pine beetle infestation and there was millions of $ spent thinning.

we paid $2 a foot plus transportation for our ~10" tops

I wish ours were as cheap but, a lot of that had to do with logs being mostly 16-22" tops 24-36" butts and around 42' in length ended up being around 9.00 per foot including delivery. A few of the logs I had delivered were almost 70 feet in length.

I think a better way to see the cost is to calculate the price paid per 1000 board feet since all logs are of different sizes. I paid 400.00 per thousand board feet.

I got my yellow poplar logs, 16-26" butts, 40-55' long, for $100 each, cash, no invoice and I was responsible for hiring the trucks to get them on-site...and unloaded.

Got 46 for $5800 delivered. 10-12" tops at 38'. High around here, but necessary.

Got another 24 delivered for $2100.

$300/mbf in 2008, you'll be lucky to get them for $600 now.

Solar panels have gotten cheaper, as has most tech products.

Not just the panels. Every component of a solar system has gone down in price.

The system I priced out two years ago is now a full $15K less than it was then, and the price keeps going down (good thing I haven't bought it yet, right?)

That's enough to pay for the windows and then some!

True technology drops every month it's nuts.
Full home solar kits will be 2-5 k

Now how about we get those log prices down?

Now if only someone could explain why Comcast and Verizon keep increasing their prices.

Because we're all dumb enough to pay.

Ok, maybe not all of us... if it was up to me, I wouldn't have a tv or a phone. But I'm not sure my wife and kids would survive without. Our electricity is out right now because of a tree that fell in the neighbors yard. It's like my house is on fire and we're all trapped inside.

I forget how long ago I had TV....10 or 15 years ago. I don't miss it a bit. However.....when I am in the airport or a restaurant I find myself being drawn to the TV like a moth to a candle. Very disconcerting :)

I gave up the drama box in 2013. (back when Discovery Channel stopped being an educational channel, and when the History Channel stopped being a history channel, AND when a channel called TRU TV came out with scripted "reality tv" that is anything but reality) Anyhow, yes, not missed at all, but like BigD says, when at a restaurant or such, I too find myself drawn to watch, though, usually find myself depressed at what I'm seeing, reminding me why I ditched it in the first place.

Discovery is still very educational. I learned about Bigfoot and Ghosts tonight. Then I turned to History Channel and learned about ancient aliens and more Bigfoot! Man, that guy is everywhere!

We just have the basic local channels. Anytime I get tempted to get more, I just go to my parents' house where they have a crap ton of channels and still find myself either a)not watching it at all, or b) flipping through 200+ channels and thinking "man there is nothing good on to watch". Reminds me why I don't pay the money for it.

Besides, I happen to enjoy a lot of the PBS cooking shows.

When you have feet that big, you can really get around.
