Thanks for the heads up! We missed the June class but we're planning on going to the next one. Well, husband anyway... not sure if we can both afford to go but it sure would be fun!

you know WyoFox it may just be cheaper in the long run to have you both go. it helps both members of the team get on the same page from the beginning regarding what can and cannot be done/should and should not be done. prevents a lot of arguments from the get-go. just a thought.
have a good evening

Not meaning to gang up on you, Fox, but it would be the best longterm Birthday present you could give the old man, if you went too. My life is immensely simplified by being married to a Gal who took the class with me.

No worries! But with 5 kids at home as well as a nursing baby, it just may not be possible. Coincidentally, have people ever brought babies to the class before? Not sure how much I'd get out of the class anyway if I'm watching her, she'll be 9 months by then and crawling I'm sure. I guess I could take a vow to take my husband's word on what is/isn't a good idea for planning our home ;)

*that's 5 kids including a baby. They are 5 total. :) thought that looked confusing

So True LHN! My wife went to the class as well for that very reason. We left our kids home, but my wife did attend the class pregnant :)

BTW....it was an AWESOME experience to go to the class together. Now we both have a foggy idea of what we need to do next and that is a huge help to have my partner in crime (so to speak) on the same page as me.

Yes, I am sure that 5 anklebiting children is a bit confusing. I would not recommend bringing all the rascals to class but I will rest on the wisdom (I am sure I have wisdom) of my previous post. If I was me (and I am) I would want you (or a reasonable facsimile) there at class to tell me what I needed to listen to.

Both instructors are extremely male and they are not very good at ordering husbands around. They just kinda chat and point at the screen. It is very confusing to some of us. A guy needs a Wife to keep him focused.

All joking aside, I can see problems in our build that did not occur because my Wife took the course. My advice will not waver much. Find a Grandparent or two who needs to bond with the little crumbcrunchers and go have a weekend in Vegas. You don't have to tell anyone that all you did was attended class and sleep all weekend.

I haven't read any of this... But drink, don't gamble. You might forget but at least you'll know where your money went.

I have read success stories of people who attended with young children. I think ultimately it comes down to how well a child is behaved and if they are having a good day. We just lost my father in law last night and it only made me more determined to get my own place debt free. I am ready and eager to get going.

Thought I'd follow through and let y'all know both husband and I are going to class! Woohoo!!

Kids will all stay with my very generous (and very brave) in-laws. There'll be 3 adults but the kids will still outnumber them by 2 so prayers for everyone's safety and sanity by those inclined to do so would be much appreciated.

We're driving in from wyoming and very much looking forward to class (and to sleeping through the night)!

I'm so glad both of you will be taking the class together. husband and wife on the same page is a beautiful thing!
perhaps this could be a mini second-honeymoon?

will send prayers that your children in the care of their grandparents are thoughtful and kind, and for patience on behalf of the adults!

welcome to the family :)

Well got my vacation approved by the overlords at work so looks like that is taken care of. Just waiting on my July paycheck to round out my savings and pay for class. I will be driving from Arkansas for the trip since I don't have the funds for a flight right now due to family developments recently, But regardless I am looking forward to it, I am trying to get the wife to go, I told her if she goes we can stop by the big ol' ditch in Arizona and she seemed to like that so maybe I have her convinced! Plus if she is willing to drive its less likely I will have to sleep in a truckstop parking lot which is a plus! And she gets discounts on hotels so that will save me a pretty penny as well. If all else fails I will be there sleeping in my car :)

Tell the Wife that if she goes to class, you won't be tempted by any of those "lot lizards" (look it up, Bo).

It'll be nice to meet you on the other side of the forum.

Don't think I need to add anything, but it does remind me of when I took the class back in Feb of this year. Truly transformative. My life has two parts now: before the class, and after the class. I went in having a pretty good idea what I was going to learn (studied almost every home building method for about 15 years prior to the class, settled on B&P about 10 years ago, so there were no real surprises). Regardless, I took copious amounts of notes- filled the book with them just to be sure I didn't miss anything. But I don't think it's so much the method as it is the idea of doing it debt free. More than knowledge, the class gave me the confidence that I can do this. And the folks on the forum are truly wonderful (and colorful) people. Anyway, enjoy the class!

After starting this thread having to say this sucks, but I will not be able to make it to this class. All my plans fell through and unfortunately it just won't happen this go around. However, I plan on being in the very first class of 2017, as long as life cooperates this time. I look forward to hearing from everyone about how much they liked the class and hope to be on the members side early next year!

It took me from 2005 (or maybe 2006) until 2011 to take class. No matter how long you wait, just remember this: LHBA style is the best, let me break it down.

1) Methods are the simplest in log home industry. Any one can build it, from experienced builders to someone who never touched a chainsaw (that's me). The only other experience I had before is roofing.
2) The most Cost effective, and it can be just as elegant as any home out there. This method is affordable to anyone from poverty level to richest neighbor in town.
3) Strenth and Versatility, meaning the arrangement of your layout can be easy to accommodate (but this is where simplicity plays part). This also means that you can build up to 3 story high (try that with a kit, settling alone can be up to 2 feet, good luck to them). When the structure is build as taught in class, it is a one piece building, no taking logs apart after they are up.
4) Support, no other place will you get as much support as you would here. There are up to 60 years of classes that been conducted. Thousands of members actively building. Hundreds are active on this site (members side) to answer ur questions.

Just remember, we'll be waiting for you to take the class and be able to help and encourage others.

So i read this and figure i will chime in, if you see some woman who looks like she has not had a bath in three days walking toward your car in the truck stop, try to hide and don't answer the knock, cause she is going to ask "if you want some company tonight hunny" The joys of being a 5yr truck driver i can pick them out inside the store and out now lol.

Hi Gabriela! Less than 3 weeks left, we are so excited to get there and meet everyone!

I've been spending (wasting?) time with some house design software. I've got a floor plan I really like but not sure we want to go so big (35 x 35). And I'm sure after class I'll rework the whole thing anyway.

Feeling a bit nervous too, like, what have we gotten ourselves into? Can we really do this?? Hopefully that goes away after the class...
