Hey everyone saw some older threads with Hotel suggestions for the class held in Las Vegas. Just wondering if any of the recent attendees had suggestions? I will probably be attending in the fall but wanted to get an idea of cost so I can start saving up. A lot of the hotels seem to have resort fees which charge another 25-30 bucks a night on top of tax and the room itself. The Best Western next to Harrah’s seems to have rooms for around $150 a night with no resort fee. I know I saw one suggestion from a member on my previous post for the La Quinta but didn't know if anyone else had other suggestions. Just trying to be frugal and not spend a ton on a hotel or transportation. I am flying in on Southwest cause it’s a non-stop flight from Little Rock, and then flying out Monday morning. I have no plans on doing anything in Vegas other than attending class, sleeping, and occasionally eating since I’m a big boy. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, as well as transportation suggestions that don't cost a ton.
Thanks!

Less expensive transportation- take the shuttle bus from the airport, not a taxi.

I believe we stayed at the Orleans, it is about a mile off the strip but we took the bus and/or taxi to the class and the strip. They were the best price and a great hotel because you could just go downstairs to eat at a fairly good choice of restaurants. Most hotels are limited on that.

We stayed at the Rio hotel where class was. Decent hotel, but I doubt I would stay there again. Make sure to take plenty of money for food. That was the one thing that seemed to cost a lot no matter what hotel we were in, cuz we visited a couple others since we stayed an extra day. There was a cheaper buffet across the street we could have gone to, but time always seemed to be hurried. It was hard enough getting lunch at the hotel where class was because the waits were sometimes long during that time period. Even coffee is outrageous. We emailed ahead and were told there were Keurigs in the room so we took our own Kcups.. We got there and that was NOT the case. Didn't even have a coffee maker to make hot water. Management did give us a hotel credit though to make up for the misunderstanding so it turned out ok. So no matter how much you try to save money, plan to spend more. We took Southwest too. They were AWESOME. No problems whatsoever.

I'll agree with MPeterson1020 and say that food in Vegas was expensive. I'm the one the posted earlier about staying at La Quinta, btw. I'll add that in part of my search for hotels I looked for a place with a free continental breakfast...not necessary, as the class provided a continental breakfast and it was much better than my hotel...coffee was provided in class, it was actually better than the $6 Sbucks in Vegas
I ate out during the lunch break as my only purchased meal for the day and snacks were provided in class, didn't need to buy dinner as the class got out around 9 p.m. the first night.

Awesome I looked at LA Quinta that had the shuttle to harrahs. Is it pretty reliable? Or did you find yourself standing around waiting forever?

I had to wait maybe 15 minutes at most following a phone call to be picked up from Harrah's back to the hotel, it was a 5 minute ride, maybe 1.5 miles away. They leave at a set time in the a.m....I think it was on the half hour. Just let the front desk know the night before. Prompt and courteous.

Perfect sounds like a good plan, and with airport do you just schedule that with them before hand too before you arrive?

It might be wise to call ahead, Travelocity made a notification as I booked a hotel+flight package. I just called from the airport, it wasn't too late and the airport was close by.
Make sure you go out to the correct terminal for pick up...there's a shuttle & limo pickup on one side of the terminal and then a hotel shuttle pickup on the other side of the terminal. Yours truly chose the wrong side first time around.

Hope that you have an enjoyable class experience, it was incredible when I went in February. Lots of information in a short period...kind of like drinking from a fire hose.

I am sure I will enjoy it, just wish it wasn't in Vegas. My wife gets discounts on hotel rooms since she is an employee of a Hotel Management firm but they don't have anything within 40 minutes of Vegas I can book. So I get to pay full price which I am not used to let alone the "Vegas" price on a lot of thing. I see from past posts they used to have them on the east coast occasionally but I don't think that's happened in a while. Oh well I will figure out the airport thing when I get there I guess. I look forward to flying in, getting my head full of knowledge and high tailing it out of Sin City.

I wasn't interested in Vegas, just the class. Just roll with it. The class is worth attending no matter the venue.
Go, and get your key to the members side. Once that's done you will be on your way to having a home without 30 years of slavery hanging over your head.

You folks need to just go to Vegas and get that class done and over with so you can get on the member's side where the rest of your life begins!!!

I've never seen such a bunch. They don't want to go to Vegas! That's really weird.

Must be the right kinda folks. I can't wait.

Right... I wanted to go, for LHBA. Don't care if I ever see Vegas again. I did enjoy my long weekend there. Look at some of the different travel websites. I think I averaged out to about $100-115 a night at the Flamingo, there was plenty of options for food and the class was there the weekend I went.

Also, I just looked back, I used bookit.com. And, I don't know if I'd recommend it or not but, the longer you wait to book your hotel the better deal you'll get. Looks like I booked the day before I got there.

I take that back, I would recommend that if you're trying to save a buck. There is some things you should absolutely go forth with right away and others that can be procrastinated. There was plenty of people sleeping on the sidewalk in Vegas so I guess that's always an option.

I think Allen has pretty much cleared it all up for us. Go to Vegas and either plan it or don't plan it.

That's how I'd do it.

I would check Vegas calendar of events for that specific week. They have some big events there that affect prices. If there's a fight, car race etc, I wouldn't wait till last minute. If there's not much going on during that time, you should be able to get a last minute deal.
Class is held in Vegas b/c of flight options/prices, and the amount of hotel rooms. Getting a deal isn't that hard to do, especially if your already doing your reaearch. Enjoy class! It'll be here before you know it.

I think I have picked my Hotel, its close to the airport, and is fairly cheap for the 3 nights I would need it. I can just take a cab or Uber to the class both days and then hop the hotel shuttle to the airport. I spoke with the hotel and they said they often will take guests to the MGM monorail station too if they aren't too busy with airport runs. So might be a win on both hotel and transportation issues. I hope to attend the labor day weekend class if they announce it, doesn't look to be much going on in Vegas that weekend. Thanks for the help!

By not much else I meant of the other sin city variety. I will be enjoying my class and overloading my brain. The following weeks I will spend on the members forum reading everything I can and I'm sure asking so many questions you will be tired of me by October.

Watch your airline prices.. we were holding out for a deal and I told myself I would book it the next day and WHAM... it went up $200 overnight! We ended up looking at another airport that was almost as close and got a decent deal but still not as good if I would have just booked it that one night. They never went down after that.

Yea as soon as they announce the labor day class I am going to sign up and book everything. Southwest is pretty stable if you book at least a month in advance.

We flew Southwest and were very pleased with the service; just not the price hike. :) But that was my fault for putting it off.

Yea if I can I fly southwest. I've flown on many other airlines travelling as part of my job but I like no frills simple get on the plane get off the plane. I do buy an extra seat cause I'm a chunky man and southwest always refunds it after the flight so I like that as well.

Southwest was the best value in all my digging. And sidewalk or lobby sleeping was on my list of places to stay.

Heck, if you're a sleep anywhere person, it's less than an hour walk from the airport to the strip (I walked home) and the airport is always open for people to sleep on a bench. You could ride a taxi both ways each day and come in cheaper than a hotel. But, I enjoyed watching TV from the shower a couple times a day while I was there. I pay well over $100 a month for cable at home but it's still not rigged for the bathroom. I know at least one person that would spend every night there on a sidewalk or bench at the airport. He's a whole different breed :)

And if he was up for it, I'd go sleep on a sidewalk with him to sit thru that weekend again.

The person I speak of is an interesting man and someone my own age that I look up to for him being who he is. If he saw this he would have no idea I was speaking of him.
