View Full Version : Is it possible to get credit for the class if you signed up but can't make it?

So 2 weeks ago I signed up and paid for the LHBA membership and class, booked all the flights and hotel rooms for myself and my girlfriend. She wasn't planning on attending the class with me, but she loves Vegas so was going to have fun while I was learning.

Yesterday she had emergency surgery that is quite serious and I have to cancel all plans, as her recovery is 3-5 months. We should be able to go in the fall, if I can use what I already paid for the class to apply to the next available class? I sure hope so.

I'm wondering if I do that, or to the person listed in the email when I signed up, maybe it is the same person, I'll try the email first.

Go ahead without her and plan something else for when she is better. You've already made the plans. That's what I'd do but that's probably just me. I've also been told I'm a "jerk", "a real piece of work" and even worse. LOL

Allen, you are a jerk.... but then you already knew that.

I'd go it alone too.

PS.... Hope she pulls though it all just fine. Hug her for me.

My dad always said he never won anything by being a nice guy. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

I would want my other half to go without me so the build didn't get delayed. But I'm always in a hurry to do stuff. :)

LHN.. you changed your avatar! Nice!

I proposed to her the night before Skip's class... Thought she oughta get equal billing on the forum.

my wife was not really on board about the whole log house thing. it was just something else to be spending money on. So when I told her it was in Vegas, she was willing to go to the class, give and take. Unfortunately, she came down with flu like symptoms and spent the 2nd day of class in the hotel room. I always believe it is better for them to see what's involved, however, with your circumstance I think I would try and go as long as she is all in. otherwise , you may not hear the end of it later if you know what I mean. Hope she gets better soon!
LHN- like the avatar change!

I could be wrong, but isn't that something else to be spending money on? [emoji6]

So I did get full credit back for the class, but missed out on the Feb class in 2017 because my GF still requires more surgery. This has been a year long medical ordeal just about.

It took about 4 months, but eventually did get the airlines and hotel to give me back my money.

Still would like to take the class someday... Still working on my log home plans when I find the time: http://imgur.com/a/WSd8U

Currently getting power installed at my lot, so I'm building something, someday...

Thank you very much.

In the meantime, I picked this up for cheap(ish) this past summer (http://imgur.com/a/zgEKA), needs a bit of repair work until I can use it, but should definitely aid in the log home building if I go that route!

I'm surprised you found a manual for that old cornbinder that wasn't written with a quill pen! I would love to try and keep that beast running long enough to build a house. That will be more fun than building. Try to enjoy every minute of it.

Luckily manuals came with it, but all the parts numbers are very obsolete, finding it hard to get parts.

It's definitely fun to work on old stuff like this however, one of my favorite pastimes.

I used to think it was fun but not anymore. I want my stuff to work so I can spend time doing what I bought it for. So instead of a car payment I have a Mahindra payment, it should be paid for by the time I get ready to build...
Don't worry about the delay of the class, time flies by and that year is a small amount in the grand scheme of things, you still may beat LHN!

Well, if I do have a sickness, it sure is fun.

I'm in discussions with my GF, I may be able to make the overflow class in Feb 2017. We'll see...

Well, that's normally the case but working around medical issues this time around. Hopefully I can make a decision by this weekend, and hopefully there is still room in the class.

So, not only did my GF need 3 surgeries the past year, I needed one myself. I'm still recovering, but looked into taking the class the end of this month, but the airfare and hotels are just too costly on this short notice. Maybe next time...

I'll be waiting for you over on the other side of the forum. Healing the body and the wallet is all important stuff. You have the rest of your days to build that home for your Grandkids.

I brought colored markers and pens. I ended up using a black pen.
