We are planning on having a shell put up in northern Georgia. We would like to use a reputable and reasonable builder who has values and morals and won't rip us off. We plan on finishing the interior ourselves. The idea of using someone local near where we are building would be preferable. There are just so many companies. Can anyone recommend some choices? Thanks in advance for your input. Jim and Lorrie Hoffman

Why not build the rascal yourselves? Read on and see what LHBA is all about.

I can only think of one reputable contractor. Wiley Log Homes.

Lorrie,

Just so you understand, if you are speaking of a Log Home Kit type shell, pick any company, you'll find them mostly all the same. They build stick homes, not log homes.

Here, we build a certain type of real log home. Our logs are not cut except at the ends.

That being said, there is likely only one referral you'll get from this site, Wiley Log Homes. That is only because we are very supportive of our way. Wiley Log Homes is owned and operated by a lunatic. He and his crew can do in a couple of days what the rest of us do in months, some, even years. He is one of us and he is the only one we know of that can do what we do, the proven way we do things. They travel all over the country doing it for others. From frame only to complete with roof, or if wanted, full inside finish.

Read our public forums. There is a lot of great info there. Perhaps if you read enough, you'll figure out that building our way is actually something you can do yourself. The majority of us are not contractors and have never built a home for ourselves or anyone else. Look at the member's homes that are already built, by them.

Oh, by the way? Welcome.

Lorrie;
Have you read this article

There are also student built homes... My favorite is pine-cone Pam's home. She built it herself...

If you just want the shell built so you can short cut the process then talk to Mr. Wiley.

Do not have a shell built with fake logs... Kit built home is just asking for problems.
