Signed up for June class and I cant wait. But I was thinking, Home Depot has landscape timbers on sale for 2 bucks a piece. I am going to need a shed or barn type structure on my property anyway why not get a bunch of these and make a small shed maybe 20 x 20 as sort of "practice" run. Bad idea? probably is for many reasons, any thoughts?

I looked up these timbers. They are pressure treated. I believe the dimensions are 4" by a rounded 6" by 6 feet long. I'm not sure of the length... I would use them for landscape a bunch. For building, it would have many drawbacks... All of these drawbacks are the same as building a kit home...
I built a 10 by 12 by 16 feet tall by just using the tops of the trees on my property... Build a small shed is a very good idea. Look at my pictures of my well shed...

Yeah kinda figured it was a bad idea but I love the idea of using the tops of the trees thanks Rock! I am having such a hard time doing nothing while I wait for the class. Everything in me is saying "go, go, go, build, dig, chop ....., dig more, (deep breath) Then i hear the words of countless forum responses i've read and realize that my whole approach and plans may go out the window after the class. ok Matthew (thats me) do the hardest thing for you to do and do nothing. thanks guys

No amount of worry, scurry, or hurry can make Christmas morning get there any earlier. You just gotta wait it out. You''ll be fine.

Don't worry Matthew we know how u feel. I signed up for class the beginning of last month so I just did what LHN likes to say. I was lurking around getting ideas and just looming at what others have done. Never hurts to dream big!

The anticipation is killing me too... I've just been wandering around the woods with my face towards the sky :D

lol yeah thats what I do too, ill spend hours just staring and walking around the property (only 12 acres) but I have so many ideas and plans. Just for fun I bought a draw knife and peeled part of a log...it was like opening a Christmas present as a kid. It was so pretty and raw and I was able to mentally visualize a whole cabin of those logs. I have already decided that I may have to leave my job if I cannot get the days off from work for class. Hope it doesnt come to that.

Might as well go ahead and get it out of the way. I don't think we'll want to do any work but log work when we get back anyways :D Trees will tremble in my presence.

If you are building something small, like a shed, with smaller diameter logs, would you need a shorter seasoning time for that wood. Or would you even really need to season it at all?

No seasoning required.

A little paprika couldn't hurt.

Nope. No shorter seasoning, just shorter logs.

Hey timmo, don't let these clowns get you all confusicated. The real answer, if you are building the LHBA way, is that you can use green logs for you little place or your big place. The LHBA method is different than most and that's what I like about it.

I just came back from the class, and i will say that i have zero regrets, you will learn so much. My advise, take the class and don't look back.
